Aiming to deliver attractive investment performance in all market conditions

Diversified

Seeks to reduce risk by investing in broad market indices rather than in individual bonds and company shares

Focus on liquidity

A key aim is to preserve capital, which it looks to achieve via exposure to inexpensive and highly liquid markets

Flexible

Able to move between high and low levels of exposure to company shares depending on economic conditions

An index is an indicator of the value of a sector of shares in a market. The most common index in the UK is the FTSE 100 which is an indication of the performance of the top 100 UK companies' shares by market capitalisation, a measure of a company’s size on the stockmarket.

This fund may invest extensively in derivatives in seeking to fulfil its objective. Derivatives are financial instruments whose value is derived from that of another investment. The term applies to products such as futures, options and warrants. Derivatives can be used for investment reasons (i.e. to try to make money) or to limit risk, reduce costs and/or generate additional income. Investing in derivatives also carries risks, however. Please visit the Risk considerations section for a list of risks.

Read this fund's Q&A document for more information on its approach.

There is no guarantee that the fund will achieve a positive return over a five-year period or any other time period and your capital is at risk.

-0.22

Volatility is represented by the forward looking (ex-ante) standard deviation of the portfolio.  A higher number means a higher level of risk.  The Sharpe Ratio is a measure of excess returns over the risk-free rate per unit of absolute risk. A high positive number represents strong risk/adjusted performance.

Asset class breakdown and Top active positions by asset class: The contribution to risk statistics presented here represent an estimate of forward-looking risk. This is an estimation that may change depending on factors such as fund positioning and market volatility.  Artemis has used standard deviation to represent the risk in the portfolio. A higher standard deviation denotes greater variability in returns, indicating higher risk. Each position in the portfolio is broken down into its individual contribution to overall risk. The top contributors to standard deviation are the holdings that are expected to have the most significant impact on the portfolio's returns.

Risk considerations

Market volatility risk

The value of the fund and any income from it can fall or rise because of movements in stockmarkets, currencies and interest rates, each of which can move irrationally and be affected unpredictably by diverse factors, including political and economic events.

Currency risk

The fund’s assets may be priced in currencies other than the fund base currency. Changes in currency exchange rates can therefore affect the fund's value.

Leverage risk

The fund may operate with a significant amount of leverage. Leverage occurs when the economic exposure created by the use of derivatives is greater than the amount invested. A leveraged portfolio may result in large fluctuations in its value and therefore entails a high degree of risk including the risk that losses may be substantial.

Cash risk

The fund may hold a large amount of cash. If it does so when markets are rising, the fund's returns could be less than if the cash was fully invested in other types of assets.

Government and public securities risk

The fund may invest more than 35% of its value in transferable securities and money market instruments issued or guaranteed by the United Kingdom, United States or Germany. Refer to the investment policy in the fund's prospectus for further details on how large exposures to government and public securities may be held.

Counterparty risk

Investments such as derivatives are made using financial contracts with third parties. Those third parties may fail to meet their obligations to the fund due to events beyond the fund's control. The fund's value could fall because of loss of monies owed by the counterparty and/or the cost of replacement financial contracts.

Risk and reward profile
Risk and reward profile

The fund is in the category shown due to historic volatility (how much and how quickly the value of shares in the fund may have risen and fallen in the past due to movements in markets, currencies and interest rates). It may not be a reliable indication of the future risk profile of the fund. The figure highlighted in the risk reward profile is the Synthetic Risk and Reward Indicator (SRRI).
