About this fund

The Artemis UK Special Situations Fund aims to achieve capital growth over five years by investing in UK companies where the managers believe the growth prospects are underappreciated. These companies are often unloved or out-of-favour with investors.

  • Unrecognised opportunities: the term ‘special situation’ can apply to companies that are recovering from challenges, need re-financing or are suffering from investor indifference. The fund managers look for value in companies that may not be apparent to other investors. These companies often have the potential to grow significantly in value. However, as with any investment their value may fall with movements in stockmarkets, currencies and interest rates. This means that investors may not get back the amount originally invested.
  • Company meetings: the fund managers meet the teams running the companies they invest in, to help them gain an understanding of what the companies might achieve. A direct match between the interests of management teams and shareholders is an important consideration.
  • Flexible approach: the managers are free to invest across a range of company sizes, allowing them to select only those that they believe offer the best opportunities for growth. The fund typically holds between 40 and 50 company shares.
  • ESG integration: the managers see improvements in environmental, social and governance factors as fundamental to the overall rehabilitation of any company they invest in.
