Stewardship
Stewardship is the responsible allocation, management and oversight of capital to create long-term sustainable value for clients and beneficiaries.*

At Artemis

At Artemis, our investment teams have their own strategy-specific approaches to stewardship, but most of our funds apply a combination of one or more of the following:
  • ESG Integration: We believe environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors can be important drivers of risk and opportunity for the companies in which we invest. Integrating these factors into our investment processes can enhance company analysis and improves the decision-making process.
  • Engagement: Building dialogue with companies to encourage better practices, transparency, and accountability.
  • Voting: Using shareholder voting at company meetings to influence governance and decision-making on key issues.
  • Reporting: Providing transparency on our stewardship activities, including how votes were cast and the outcomes of company engagements.

Please note, some of our funds do not carry out the full range of stewardship activities described above. Fixed income investments generally do not have voting rights and our SmartGARP strategies do not meet with companies. Strategic Assets is the only fund that does not conduct any stewardship activities.

More information on our approach to stewardship can be found in our latest Stewardship Report.

At strategy level

At a strategy level, stewardship activities, including engagement priorities and voting decisions, are principally driven by each individual team within the context of the firmwide approach. This means that an investment team’s assessment of financial materiality – including the financial materiality of ESG issues – may differ due to factors including investment approach, geographical focus, holding period, portfolio positioning and construction, and risk tolerance.

Our stewardship team works closely with our individual investment teams. It provides insight, research and analysis and discussion on ESG integration, engagement and voting matters. The team also covers sustainability regulation and reporting.

More information on the stewardship approach of each of our strategies can be found in our latest Stewardship Report.

At the firm-level

Firm-level stewardship relates to the role we play in addressing overarching market and systemic risks. We are involved in a range of collaborative engagements and industry initiatives which align with our firm-wide beliefs and objectives. We work with others to raise standards, manage risks and help drive change across our industry and in the companies in which we invest.
