After studying economics with French at the University of Nottingham, he started his career at F&C Asset Management in 2003. He spent four years there as an analyst and assistant fund manager on the UK and pan-European equities desks. In 2007, Nick moved to Polar Capital as a fund manager on its UK long/short equity hedge fund.

Profile

"I have worked alongside Adrian on the Artemis Income Fund since 2012 – almost half its lifetime. Adrian is too polite to point out that my arrival coincided with a decade that brought QE, the Eurozone crisis, Brexit, Covid, inflation and QT. But he’s not daft and I’m sure the thought has occurred to him... The past 10 years have provided a salutary reminder that focusing on bottom-up stockpicking and retaining a sense of curiosity – and fun – are what really matter. Before joining Artemis, I managed a long/short fund for Polar Capital through the financial crisis, but my other jobs have included working in a fish-and-chip shop, warehousing and even demolition. If those roles taught me anything, it was that being paid to read and talk to interesting people is a privilege not to be taken for granted. Derek Stuart and I co-ordinate the Artemis Profit Hunt, a stockpicking competition for Year 12 students from some of London’s most deprived areas. When not at Artemis, I can be found with my family, with my dog, on a bike or seated at the piano as I (very) slowly learn to play."
