About this fund

The managers of the Artemis UK Select Fund seek capital growth over five years from company shares. However, the value of the investments selected by the managers may fall as well as rise with movements in stockmarkets or owing to diverse factors specific to individual companies. This could mean investors may not get back the amount they originally invested.

  • ‘Multi-size’ strategy: the fund invests in companies of different sizes, holding shares where the managers believe the share prices will rise significantly over the long term. The fund will never hold a share simply because it represents a significant proportion of its benchmark index.
Our managers use benchmark indices provided by third party firms, in this case the FTSE All Share Index, to compare performance and levels of risk taken by their funds. However, as active managers, our teams do not select companies and industries based on the proportions of the index they represent.
  • Focus on a company’s health and prospects: The managers look below the surface of a company’s financial statements in deciding where to invest. If they believe a company’s prospects are negative, they will usually decide to avoid that company’s shares. However, they may decide to take a short position.
A short position is the sale of a company share that the fund does not own, with the aim of buying it later at a lower price. The aim is to profit from a fall in a share price. This fund uses derivatives to achieve short positions synthetically. If the share price of a short position does not fall, it will result in the fund making a loss on the trade and will make a negative contribution to the fund’s overall performance.
If you are unsure whether a fund that uses shorting powers and derivatives is suitable for you, we would encourage you to consult a financial adviser.
